The Prosperity Paradox w/ Somto I.

🚨🎙️

Today I'm talking with my friend Somto, she's a Professional Engineer based in Calgary focused on clean energy. And we explore the prosperity paradox, a book co written by Clayton Christensen, Efosa Ojomo & Karen Dillon.

The whole idea of this conversation is to challenge how Nigerian's and African's could approach building businesses back home or abroad. How do we use businesses and entrepreneurship to solve problems for Nigerians and how do we overcome the barriers.

We start off with Clayton Christensen, his legacy and approach to business as a whole,  and how he drew us into the book (5:34).

Then we dive into the book itself and discuss some of the more potent ideas we found (10:35), like this idea of market creating innovation(16:30), then we identify countries that seem to have a culture of innovation (35:35). Somto then highlights the books point about pulling in readily available resources as a key strategy- and uses a  feminist coalition analogy (26:14).

We end on the books perspective on the government's responsibility and how they propose dealing with other barriers to innovation (48:06).
